Volunteer

At Little Miracles, volunteers make everything we do possible.

Every week, dedicated individuals, students, professionals and businesses give their time to help us support children with additional needs, disabilities and life-limiting conditions, as well as the families who care for them.

Whether you're looking to volunteer regularly, gain valuable experience, support your local community, or get involved through your workplace, there's a place for you at Little Miracles.

By volunteering with us, you'll become part of a welcoming, supportive community that is committed to helping families feel understood, connected and empowered.

Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do at Little Miracles. All staff and volunteers receive appropriate safeguarding training and are fully invested in its importance, helping us to create safe, supportive environments where families can engage with confidence, trust and peace of mind—every day.

If you'd like to find out more, email volunteering@littlemiraclescharity.org.uk or call 01733 262226. When you're ready, you can complete our online volunteer application form.

Make a Real Difference to Local Families

Volunteering with Little Miracles is about being there for families who are facing challenges that many people never see. By giving your time, you help create opportunities, support and connections for children with additional needs, disabilities and life-limiting conditions, and the people who care for them.

Every volunteer makes a difference.

Some volunteers help at activities and sessions with children and young people. Others support our work behind the scenes by helping with administration, fundraising, events, maintenance or practical tasks around our centres. We also welcome volunteers who can share professional skills and experience in areas such as counselling, therapy and family support.

No matter what role you choose, you'll be helping us create a welcoming, supportive environment where families can feel understood, supported and less alone.

Training, Support and Safeguarding

We want every volunteer to feel welcome, supported and confident in their role.

When you join Little Miracles, you'll receive an induction and any training needed to help you get started. Some volunteer roles require an Enhanced DBS check to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the children, young people and families we support. If this applies to your role, we'll explain everything and support you through the process.

Little Miracles covers the cost of any required DBS checks and training, as long as you volunteer with us for at least 10 hours.

As a Disability Confident organisation, we're committed to making volunteering as inclusive and accessible as possible. If you need any adjustments or additional support, we'll work with you to help you succeed in your role.

Volunteer Opportunities at Little Miracles

We offer a wide range of volunteering opportunities to suit different interests, skills, availability and experience levels.

Corporate Volunteering

Our Corporate Volunteering programme gives businesses and organisations the chance to support local families while bringing colleagues together through a shared purpose.

There are lots of ways teams can get involved, including:

  • Helping improve and maintain our centres
  • Supporting family events and community activities
  • Sharing professional skills and expertise
  • Taking part in fundraising campaigns and challenges

Many businesses tell us that volunteering with Little Miracles is one of the most rewarding team-building activities they've done. Not only does it strengthen team relationships, but it also makes a real difference to children with additional needs, disabilities and life-limiting conditions, and their families.

Visit our Corporate Volunteering page to find out more.

Young People and Student Volunteering

We welcome young people who want to build confidence, learn new skills and make a positive difference in their community.

Volunteering with Little Miracles can be a great way to gain experience, meet new people and develop skills that will support future education and employment opportunities. It can also help fulfil Duke of Edinburgh Award requirements and strengthen college or university applications.

Young volunteers may help prepare resources, support activities, assist at events and contribute to projects across the charity. Throughout their volunteering journey, they will receive support and guidance from a dedicated Line Manager, along with appropriate safeguarding training and supervision.

Professional and Student Placements

We offer placement opportunities for students and professionals studying or working in counselling, therapy and related fields. Working alongside our Counselling and Family Support teams, placements provide valuable hands-on experience while helping to support local families.

Depending on your course, experience and placement requirements, opportunities may include:

  • Supervised client work
  • Supporting families with additional needs and complex circumstances
  • Developing professional skills and confidence
  • Gaining experience within a multi-disciplinary support environment
  • Building placement or clinical hours where appropriate

All placements are supported by experienced team members who provide guidance, supervision and opportunities for learning throughout your time with us.

Supported Volunteering

At Little Miracles, we believe everyone has something to offer, and we want volunteering to be accessible to as many people as possible.

Our Supported Volunteering opportunities are available for individuals who may need additional guidance, adjustments or ongoing support to feel confident in their role.

We'll work with you to understand your needs, identify the right opportunity and provide the support needed to help you succeed. Our aim is to create a positive volunteering experience where you feel welcomed, valued and able to contribute in a way that works for you.

If you're not sure which volunteering opportunity would suit you best, our team will be happy to talk through the options and help you find the right fit.

Fundraising and Events Volunteering

Fundraising volunteers are a huge part of how we keep supporting children with additional needs, disabilities and life-limiting conditions, along with their families.

As a fundraising or events volunteer, you might:

  • Help out at family events
  • Support community fundraising activities
  • Assist with raffles and auctions
  • Represent Little Miracles in your local area
  • Help spread the word about the support available to families

There are also lots of other ways to get involved, which you can explore in our Support Us section.

What You Can Expect From Us

We know volunteering is a commitment, and we don’t take that lightly. That’s why we make sure you feel supported from the moment you join us.

When you volunteer with Little Miracles, you can expect:

  • A warm, welcoming and inclusive environment
  • Clear guidance so you know exactly what’s expected of you
  • Ongoing support from experienced staff who are there when you need them
  • Training and development opportunities that are relevant to your role
  • Appreciation and recognition for the time and energy you give
  • Chances to learn new skills and gain valuable experience

Many of our volunteers tell us they get just as much out as they put in. Some grow in confidence and make new friendships, others pick up skills that help with education or work, and many simply enjoy being part of something meaningful that supports local families.

Whatever brings you here, you’ll be joining a team built on kindness, respect, inclusion and community.

Who Can Volunteer?

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and walks of life.

You don't need previous experience working with children with disabilities or additional needs. What matters most is compassion, reliability and a willingness to learn.

You may be:

  • A student looking to gain experience
  • A professional wanting to use your skills to help others
  • Someone seeking to give back to your local community
