Food Hub Volunteer

Do you have a valid Driving Licence?

Can you offer 2 hours to support us once or twice a week?

Then you could be a Food Hub Volunteer!

Help support our local families at the Peterborough Centre of Little Miracles by picking  up surplus too good to waste food from a local supermarket or a direct food donation from a local supporter for us.

Maybe you have time after the school run and are looking to support a worthwhile cause? Then we have the role for you!

Duties:
  • Attend local supermarkets to pick up surplus food for use at our Community Food Hub at the local centre. (You would need or have access to a vehicle to collect the food as there is usually a lot and it needs transporting to our Centre at The Spinney, Hartwell Way, Peterborough PE3 7LE).
  • Sort and reject food that is not fit for human consumption in line with the Food Standards and Food Hygiene and Safety legislation and our policies and guidelines.
  • Support Centre Team to stock the food hub with food.
Optional Duties:
  • Support the Centre Team to post on social media for our member families to receive notification of food available at the centre.
  • Support the Centre Team to store the surplus food for future use using appropriate means and storage. 
  • Commitment to a regular collection for Little Miracles.
Skills and Attributes
  • Flexible.
  • Friendly. 
  • Full driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle (car).

Recruitment Requirements
  • An informal interview with our Volunteer Manager
  • Two references
    • One Professional Reference - Previous employer or volunteer organisation you have worked/volunteered with.
    • One Personal Reference - A friend or someone who has known you personally for 2+ years but is not related to you either by blood or marriage.
  • An enhanced DBS Check to be completed by Little Miracles.
  • Completion of 8 Mandatory Training Courses on our external training platform in line with our Safeguarding policy and procedures.
  • Attendance on an induction session.
