Families Shouldn't Have to Pay for EHCP, DLA or PIP Support
.jpg)
Over the last few months, we've noticed more and more organisations advertising paid support for things like EHCP applications, Disability Living Allowance (DLA) forms and Personal Independence Payment (PIP) applications.
And it worries us.
We know how overwhelming these processes can feel. The forms are long, the language can be confusing and, for many families, they're being completed at a time when life already feels incredibly stressful.
When you're worried about your child, trying to get the right support in place and juggling everything else that comes with family life, it's understandable that you might look for someone to help.
But we want families to know that help is available, and you shouldn't feel like paying for support is your only option.
Support Should Be Accessible To Every Family
Many of the families we support are already dealing with extra costs because of their child's needs. Whether that's additional care needs, specialist equipment, appointments, therapies and reduced working hours, the financial impact can be significant.
That's why it's so difficult to see families being charged large amounts of money for help completing forms and applications.
If you're at a crisis point, feeling overwhelmed and desperate for support, paying someone to help can feel like the only option.
However, we want families to be aware that help is available through charities, support organisations and community groups that offer help and guidance for free.
How We Can Help
At Little Miracles, we've been supporting families with applications and paperwork for many years.
We regularly help families understand:
-
EHCP applications
-
DLA applications
-
PIP applications
-
What evidence may be needed
-
Where to find additional support and guidance
We also provide our DLA guide free of charge, helping families understand the application process and complete forms with confidence. Our ‘Grants for Families’ page is another great resource for families looking for financial support with the cost of equipment and other needs.
A Message From Nikita, our Head of Family Support Services
Nikita has spoken about her concerns regarding the increasing number of services charging vulnerable families for support:
"In the last few months, I've seen a growing number of organisations charging vulnerable families significant fees for help with DLA, PIP and EHCP applications. Families of children with additional needs and life-limiting conditions already face enough financial and emotional challenges, and I don't believe they should ever have to consider paying for advice and support to access the help they are entitled to.
At Little Miracles, we provide free guidance and support with these applications, including our long-standing DLA guide, at no cost. If you need help, please come to us before paying for a service that should be accessible to every family, regardless of financial circumstances."
Before You Pay For Support
If you are considering paying for help with an EHCP, DLA or PIP application, we encourage you to please check what free help is available first.
There are organisations, support groups and charities like Little Miracles that can guide you through the process without adding another financial burden at an already difficult time.
No family should feel they have to pay simply to access the support their child is entitled to.
