Ibrahim's Story

Ibrahim has been part of the Little Miracles family for more than seven years, but for much of that time, life was challenging for him and his family. They found it difficult to fully engage with the support around them, and everyday routines could often feel overwhelming.
In 2023, Social Care asked for some additional support. Ibrahim’s weight was having a serious impact on his health, while his family were struggling to manage daily routines and understand the specialist equipment and support he needed.
That’s when our Family Support Team stepped in.
The team began visiting the family every week, providing practical guidance, reassurance and, perhaps most importantly, someone to listen. Support Worker Helen developed a particularly special bond with the family. She was there to support Mum emotionally, while also helping both parents, who have cognitive difficulties, to understand what was needed and find ways to make things feel more manageable.
Over time, that trust made a huge difference. Mum now feels comfortable asking questions, talking about her worries and seeking help when she needs it, knowing she will be met with patience, understanding and care.
Helen also introduced some simple tools to help make everyday life easier, including a visual weekly calendar and meal planners. Cooking sessions helped the family build confidence around preparing healthier meals, turning what had once felt like a daunting task into something they could enjoy together.
Gradually, these small changes started to become part of everyday family life.
Ibrahim now enjoys going for nightly walks with Dad, attends Little Miracles most Saturdays and takes part in trips and activities during the school holidays. A family Messenger group also helps everyone stay connected, share updates, celebrate progress and support one another along the way.
Two years on, the difference is remarkable.
Ibrahim can now stand and walk short distances, his weight is stable and his overall health is improving. His family regularly attends our Peterborough branch, where they feel safe, happy and, most importantly, part of a community.
Mum has made friends too, and the change in the family is clear to see. Both she and Ibrahim now arrive relaxed, smiling and confident.
Even professional meetings have changed. Instead of focusing on concerns and challenges, conversations are now about celebrating Ibrahim’s achievements and recognising just how far he has come.
For our Family Support Team, this is what being there for families is all about. Sometimes progress comes through big milestones, but often it is found in the everyday moments – a family feeling confident enough to ask for help, a new routine becoming manageable, a child taking a few more steps, or simply arriving at Little Miracles with a smile.
Through consistent guidance, patience and care, Ibrahim and his family have found something incredibly important: a sense of belonging, confidence and the knowledge that they don't have to face the difficult days alone.
