At Little Miracles, we exist to support families navigating the day-to-day realities of raising a child with disabilities or life-limiting conditions. From time to time, we share the voices of parents and carers to help others feel less alone, to highlight lived experience, and to encourage thoughtful, respectful conversation about the issues that affect our community.

We now have a dedicated, private and comfortable space to strengthen the emotional and mental health support we offer to children, young people and their families.

Drawing on both her professional expertise and her personal journey as a parent, Michelle shared the story of her son, Oliver, who has never been offered a school place because his needs are considered “too complex.” Her interview highlighted the systemic challenges facing families like hers and called for greater awareness, compassion, and action to ensure every child has access to education.

The golden anniversary event saw breathtaking arena attractions and colourful floats as carnival day got underway. Our Downham Market team were particularly proud of their float which was completely homemade by the children and their families, with no budget and very little time!

Let’s rewind a little…

Back on 10th April 2015, we held our very first event at Eat n Bowl with over 50 wonderful people joining us. Since that day, we’ve grown into a thriving hub for local families, running all sorts of fun activities and offering support in every way we can. From trips to the Sealife Centre and chilled-out picnics to tie-dye crafts and legendary Christmas parties, it’s been a joyful, jam-packed decade.

And when times got tough during COVID, we didn’t skip a beat. We got creative with online sessions, delivered activity packs to doorsteps, and even organised Santa visits—right to families' front doors. 

The Big Birthday Party...
This year’s celebration was one to remember. DJ Alex (a proud member of one of our families!) kept the vibes high with music, while kids got stuck into all sorts of fun—think bouncy castles, messy play with shaving foam, LEGO towers, glitter tattoos, arts and crafts, and decorating the most delicious cupcakes and biscuits.

We also had a bit of magic—literally! JJ from Magic Touch had everyone in awe with his spellbinding tricks. And no birthday party is complete without food, right? We finished the day with tasty party snacks and a stunning rainbow cake from Jennie’s Cakes & Catering. Yum!

And just when you thought it couldn’t get any sweeter—every child went home with an Easter egg, generously donated by Tesco’s Community Champions, Hotel Chocolat, and Skanska. Thank you so much for your kindness and support!

With 18 branches (and growing!), we offer everything from emotional support and advice to practical help like filling out DLA/PIP forms, fun family events, and peer connection. For every £20 customers spend with them this month, they will donate £1 to our vital work.

Thanks to their efforts and the amazing support from attendees, the event raised an astonishing £1,525.53! This significant donation will go directly towards supporting families of children with additional needs, disabilities, or life-limiting conditions.

Every penny raised will help us to provide:

• Support for families
• Training opportunities for families, children and professionals
• Activities and days out
• Respite tailored to individual needs
• Safe spaces for families to have fun and be themselves

The funds raised will help make life just a little brighter for the children and families we support, whether it's through providing sensory equipment, running support groups, or simply giving families a chance to take a well-earned break.

We cannot thank The Golden Pheasant Pub enough for their dedication, hard work, and community spirit.

Little Miracles was honoured as a runner-up in the prestigious Pride of South Holland Awards, receiving well-deserved recognition for their efforts. As one supporter remarked:

"They give so much to support families facing challenges. Run by parents and volunteers, they truly understand the needs of the community. Their ability to raise significant funds to sustain their work is nothing short of inspiring."

Little Miracles South Holland was also a finalist in the South Holland Business Awards 2024, competing in the 'Supporting the Community' category. This accolade highlights their incredible support for families who have children with additional needs, disabilities and life-limiting conditions.

Little Miracles’ recognition is a powerful reminder of the difference we can all make when we work together.

Delicious Ideas’ regular donations of surplus stock has meant we can offer essentials to families who need them most. But their support goes beyond everyday items. This year they also provided goody bags for all our runners at the 2024 Great Eastern Run. Packed with energy-boosting treats, these goody bags brought a smile to every participant, giving them the fuel they needed to finish strong!

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the event, whether you were cheering from the sidelines, baking, donating or even woofing (yes, our four-legged friends were a huge hit!).  Together we raised nearly £10,000 for Little Miracles.

Little Miracles Volunteer manager, Sarah Woodbine, says  "Donations from Delicious Ideas mean we can make a difference to our families’ lives. We not only use them at activities and events but regularly use them to feed our families at the centre. The donations mean we can provide a nutritious meal to our families and this means a lot to them and us”

We look forward to working closely with Delicious Ideas in the future. Their ongoing generosity continues to help us make a real difference in the lives of families who need it most.

Little Miracles was voted as one of two of the 'Community Chest' spaces alongside Light Project Peterborough, and we are absolutely thrilled to have been recognised as one of the city's most important assets.

Our CEO Michelle's son, Oliver adores playing Monopoly and his face was an absolute picture when he met 90 year-old Mr Monopoly with his legendary top hat and twirly moustache!

If you are looking for a present that the whole family can play together this winter then we would thoroughly recommend the Peterborough edition of Monopoly... although we warn you, Monopoly games can go on for days!

Recognised as one of the most popular events of the year, this car meet has helped raise awareness and a significant amount for charity over the years. This year, the team at Trackstar selected Little Miracles as the event's charity partner and raised a staggering £2,630.65!   

BBC radio reporter Tom Jackson visited The Spinney this morning to chat to our CEO, Michelle King, about Nick Knowles' visit:

Children with SEN make up 22% of the 2,900 children not enrolled at a school or being suitably educated elsewhere - which is disproportionately high, as 16% of children in state education have SEN, the report says.

Children's commissioner Dame Rachel de Souza, who produced it, said provision for children with SEN was “the number one thing that needs sorting out alongside attendance to make sure our kids can go to school”.

The Department for Education said the report showed there were "far too many children falling through the cracks".

Nick has been a huge supporter of Little Miracles since 2013 when, along with the BBC DIYSOS team, he built our Head Office as part of the Children in Need Million Pound Build.

When asked what returning to Little Miracles meant to him, Nick said;

“It was so lovely to revisit Little Miracles and see how both the children and the charity have grown. To walk through the Chris Beardshaw designed gardens and the Nina Campbell designed interiors and see it all being put to maximum use to improve the lives of the young people and families the centre looks after.

I was also so touched by the support of the kids and staff for my time on Strictly - I’m going to work extra hard and do my best to stay in the competition as long as possible to give them someone to cheer for on Saturday nights.

It’s impossible to overstate the difference Michelle and her team make to so many people’s lives day in and day out and I urge anyone in the area who can to support Little Miracles.

I was overjoyed to find the local fire service and military units along with other companies who helped us build still involved in maintaining the centre.

My DIY SOS family and I send our love and support to them all and once again all praise must go to the hundreds of volunteer trades and suppliers who with their generosity made the building of the wonderful Little Miracles centre possible 11 years ago”

Nick was very excited to be taking part in this year's Strictly Come Dancing and chose Little Miracles as the location for his section of the launch show which was aired on Saturday night.  Up until now we have been sworn to secrecy, but now that the show has launched we cannot wait to support Nick as much as possible! We think that alongside his partner, Luba Mushtuk, they have a huge chance of getting all the way to Blackpool, and beyond!

The theme for the night is 'Black Tie with a Hollywood Theme', so what better way to kickstart the autumn than to gather a group of friends or colleagues and dance the night away?! 

There are different ticket prices available, all of which include a welcome drink, a deluxe three-course meal and a fabulous night of entertainment. There will also be a raffle and silent auction.

Table sponsorship packages are available at £75 per table and will fund the wine for the table and welcome drinks. Table sponsors will receive advertising and reduced-price entry tickets.

Members of Little Miracles will also receive reduced-price tickets.

For Valerie, the decision to abseil was not an easy one. Standing at 418 feet, the abseil tower she chose is the highest in the world—a daunting height for anyone, let alone someone who has never abseiled before. 

When asked why she chose Little Miracles Valerie said:

"Because I saw first hand the amazing work they do, supporting families and children. Everyone was so excited and happy when they came into our pottery painting studio and I could feel how much love was shared between everyone."

Little Miracles provides a safe environment where children can participate in activities and therapies that support their development and well-being. We also offer essential services to families, including counselling, family support, educational guidance and friendship groups. These services are a lifeline for parents, giving them the support and community they need to navigate the challenges they face.

Dave Clarke represented his country 144 times in blind football scoring a record 128 goals in the process. He competed for ParalympicsGB at the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Paralympic Games and also in Goalball at Atlanta 1996.

In his message to our children, Dave said:

"Sport is for everybody, but, if you want to be the best at your sport then you have to work hard and you have to never give-up. You also have to really try hard to keep focused, and if anybody tries to put you off by saying you shouldn't be included you have to really say "no, this space is for me, I want to do this sport and I'm going to be the best I can be". Put your whole heart into it and I'm sure you will be brilliant at it"
